Bel canto

What is bel canto? In this session we talk and listen to melody — set against Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. We discuss Maria Callas and her technical contribution to singing. We ask whether what Callas does has an instrumental precedent. Answering that, we pass through Pau Casals and continue with performers such as Victoria de los Ángeles or Alicia de Larrocha, who aim for interpretive perfection while respecting the score as closely as possible.
