Casting Lear

An original take on Shakespeare’s classic that asks about origin and the past. This version-simulacrum of King Lear aims to open a door onto how we relate to our parents — biological ones, but also metaphorical ones, including William Shakespeare himself. It is autofiction built from a classic, or a classic turned into autofiction. A piece about origin; about how what came before pursues us even when we try to ignore it; about how those who precede us shape us; about inventing a life that belongs to you without forgetting the past; about imagining other possible endings. The show has received the Premio MAX for Best Show and the Premio MAX for Best Adaptation or Version of a Theatrical Work 2025. Produced by Andrea Jiménez, El Barco Pirata and Teatro de la Abadía. Accessibility: For people with hearing disabilities, the performance offers individual magnetic loop and amplified sound with headphones. Limited units. Collect devices 30 minutes before the show.
