Faust

A major operatic title performed in its original version, with the added draw of costumes designed by Christian Lacroix. Charles Gounod’s Faust opens the 41st Opera Season of the Teatre Principal. Gounod worked with librettists Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, who adapted a play of their own inspired by Goethe. It premiered on 19 March 1859 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris. The story follows the ageing scholar Faust, ready to strike a deal with the devil to regain knowledge, youth and earthly power. Production of the Opéra de Lille in co-production with Opéra-Comique (Paris) and Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française (Venice).
