In a world where artificial intelligence advances at dizzying speed, philosophical questions about its implications are more urgent than ever. To address them, the Cercle welcomes Javier Echeverría Ezponda, an international reference on the social impacts of technology. AI, electronic screens, telematic networks and the great data centres also called clouds form technological domains that increasingly shape the everyday relations and lives of millions of people. Since the World Summit on the Information Society (UN, 2003–2005) left the building and management of cyberspace to private initiative, the new techno-social space has become massive and yet a-democratic. The Lords of Networks and Clouds impose leonine terms on users, while shrinking states under the rule of law barely intervene, with the exception of China and the USA.
