Andean textile practice has been a continuous collective tradition from the earliest civilisations to the present day, enduring while adapting to changing contexts. Through the transmission of knowledge within communities in which women weavers have played a central role, textile technologies have been preserved over time, incorporating new materials, techniques and processes that have generated new forms of knowledge and new power relations. Textiles have functioned as repositories of cultural memory and as vehicles for the transmission of knowledge, forming connecting threads between past and present. The exhibition offers new perspectives on textiles, highlighting not only their significance as an artistic practice but also the narratives in which ritual, symbolism, politics, society and identity intersect as expressions of a living culture. Curated by Renata Ribeiro, the exhibition brings together a selection of works from the Paul Hughes Fine Arts collection, produced between the first century BCE and the tenth century CE within the context of different Andean cultures, alongside contemporary works by established and emerging artists including Marlene Hoffmann, Taller De Amar…
