One of Spain’s most prestigious conductors sets music to the silent film by Hans Karl Breslauer. Olga Neuwirth, Ensemble Phace and Nacho de Paz provide a live soundtrack to an iconic work of Austrian expressionism that takes us to the Republic of Utopia in The City Without Jews. Faced with a severe economic crisis gripping the country, Jews are blamed as the sole culprits of the hardship affecting citizens — and are ordered expelled. Among those cast out is Leo Strakosch, fiancé of the daughter of government councillor Linder. He will re-enter the Republic in secret to show society how wrong the mass expulsion is, and to denounce the antisemitic prejudices taking hold.
