“Words of the Mediterranean: A humanist look at Greece, Hellenism and its foundational impact on Western civilisation” Conversations with Pedro Olalla Fundació Sa Nostra, Can Tàpera Pedro Olalla (Oviedo, Spain, 1966) is a writer, Hellenist, teacher, translator and filmmaker based in Athens since 1994. “We are all Greeks,” Shelley wrote with precision, though some more than others. With his Hellenist vision and command of Aeschylus’s tongue, Olalla has made Greece a way of being in the world. Through vast knowledge and an adventurous spirit he has brought to general and specialised audiences his deep love of the Greeks. Their myths, legends, histories, founding stories and their way of understanding the philosophy of the world mark the beginning of what we are. Without them, nothing begins. For his work Olalla has received the title of Ambassador of Hellenism (Greek State); he is a Knight of the Order of Civil Merit and an Associate Member of the Center for Hellenic Studies at Harvard.
